Hey Phoenix. Nice of you guys to resurface again (wow, bad unintentional joke).
Your new song “1901″ is blowing my mind. Seriously, it is making me go crazy (not psycho crazy, but happy crazy). Especially since I am listening to it on my new Beats By Dre headphones (thanks Neil). It’s like Monster Energy/Red Bull for my ears.
Just wanted to say that I’m eagerly anticipating May 25th, 2009. Based on listening to “1901″ over and over for the past hour,“Wofgang Amadeus Phoenix” sounds like it’s going to be an amazing album (I know it’s bad to judge but you guys never write bad songs). Your last album “It’s Never Been Like That” was your best album yet and “1901″ tells me that you still know how to write hits (that’s me doing band manager industry speak!) and that “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix” will get 10 stars from Pitchfork Media and every other music industry buzz blog (If it means anything, I’ll probably give it a 10 out of 10 when I review it for my imaginary music blog).
Again, I shouldn’t jump to conclusions. But, based on your history I can’t think of any other conclusion for the new album. If I go and plot your release history using an imaginary mental graph and rate the amazingness that comes with each new album, it’s pretty easy for me or any music industry pundit to extrapolate from that graph that the new album will set a new plateau and destroy every all previous Phoenix releases. “1901″ sounds like a perfect fusion of the stripped down “It’s Never Been Like That” and the uniquely International French Fusion Sound (I might call copyright on this new musical genre I just invented) that I couldn’t get enough of with “United.” Here’s a side question. Why is it that French bands (Yourselves, Air, Daft Punk, Sebastien Tellier, Justice, Tahiti 80 and so on) can so effortlessly combine all sorts of musical influences so easily? It’s like France is the centre point for all musical influences from around the world.
Anyway, I’ve got to stop writing. “1901″ is playing over and over and I dread I will listen to it all day and then wreck the album when it’s finally released.
So, before I go, here’s my request. Please come back to Canada for the album’s promotional tour (just make sure you play Funky Squaredance when you come back and do that awesome improv thing you do when you play it live). Maybe try to bring Air with you or something (it would be like some awesome old school reunion). And tell Daft Punk to come back too. It’s been a while. They could be your special, secret guest or something. Cool?
Thanks guys.
Sooooo…phoenix just played madison square garden in nyc, and daft punk joined them on stage. just thought that’d…ya know prove you can tell the future.
