F/A-18 Pilot’s Highlight Reel makes me want to change Careers

Planes to me are like bacon to dogs. If I hear one in the sky it’s impossible for me not to look up. My favourite day of the year at the office is the day that the performers at the Canadian International Air Show practice over Lake Ontario. The first plane I hear on the Friday morning pass over and I’m on my way to the lake (usually half running while looking into the air).

The video above has the most amazing in cockpit footage I’ve ever seen. Tip: watching in full screen really gives you a sensation of flying.

Bonus: Watch his friend turn on the after burners at 1:40 and try to not to drop your jaw.

  1. Hi James!

Mutual praise for your awesome first and last names. Also, hat tip to your great Honda Indy pics! Gotta throw some support behind this great event as it slowly but surely becomes gains its footing as one of Toronto’s premiere summer events.

    Back to the jets…

In years past, jets have usually started practising at about 10:00am in the morning on the Friday. One of the great things about having an office in Liberty Village is that it’s very easy for me to run down to the lake if I hear something. So I usually wait until I hear something. Yesterday something flew in and scouted the area and then most likely landed at Pearson. I was in a meeting so I couldn’t see what it was. :)

In 2009, the Blue Angels and CF-18s ended up practising on the Thursday night. This might happen again this year with the US Heavy Metal Jet team coming for the first time (hopefully they perform to bands like Maiden, Priest and Metallica). If you’re really keen, you can listen to the radio from the Pearson control tower and find out when the jets take off because that’s where they land and park overnight when the show is on (from what I’ve heard, the CF-18s usually fly in from Trenton).

    Hope that helps!
